Newsweek is seeking a full-time Senior Pop Culture & Entertainment reporter to join our London team.

The ideal candidate will have detailed knowledge of all aspects of U.S. popular culture, including movies, TV, music, and internet trends. The Senior Pop Culture & Entertainment Reporter will be able to research, source, pitch, and write several stories each day, including breaking news, original news and features, interviews, and exclusives. They will obtain source and expert comments, and use authoritative primary sources. They will produce vibrant, concise, and clean copy to deadline. They successful candidate will have several years of experience in an entertainment reporting role at a reputable organization. They will have in-depth knowledge of the most engaging individuals online, from Hollywood celebrities to influential YouTubers and social media stars. They will have a strong understanding of digital journalism and the needs of a fast-paced newsroom.

The successful candidate will be able to develop stories where pop culture and entertainment intersects with current affairs and politics. They should be able to use social media and search platforms to identify trends and conceive original articles for an American audience. They will conduct interviews and forward-plan for events. Topics expected to be covered include, but are not limited to: Movie and television shows and industry news; celebrity lifestyle and news; celebrity court cases; social and alternative media stars and influencers; music celebrity and industry news. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.

This is a full-time role, working 5 days a week. You will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Research, source, pitch, and write several original stories each day.

● Research and write original features.

● Conduct interviews.

● Scour multiple social media for stories and emerging trends.

● Check facts and sources and ensure content is of the highest possible standard.

● Work with editors to ensure your work meets house style.

● Ensure Newsweek delivers high-quality reporting that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.

● Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.

Requirements:

● Experience in a reporting role for a reputable organization.

● Experience covering American popular culture.

● Familiarity covering U.S. news and trends.

● Familiarity of the biggest influencers on various social media platforms.

● Capable of working to tight deadlines.

● Must be able to work flexible hours.
