Newsweek is looking for a U.S. News Editor to join our U.K. Editorial team.

The U.S. News Editor will have extensive experience covering all aspects of U.S. news and politics in a fast-paced newsroom.

Reporting to the Executive Editor, they will be a digital native aware of the latest American internet trends and conversations. The candidate will have in-depth experience of responding to both breaking news for our U.S. readers and will be expected to spearhead Newsweek’s daily news coverage.

They will show sound editorial judgment and a comprehensive understanding of media law.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.

You will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the U.K.

Working pattern: Full-time, 5 days a week, covering at least one weekend day a week e.g. Tue - Sat / Sun - Thurs

Responsibilities

Commission and edit various U.S. news stories for our American audience.
React to breaking news.
Scour multiple social media for stories and emerging trends.
Assign and oversee original stories and exclusives.
Check facts and sources and ensure content is of the highest possible standard.
Manage staff performance and provide feedback.
Support the Executive Editor on new projects
Lead the team on weekdays and weekends when required

Requirements

Experience in an editing role for a reputable organization
Experience managing a team of writers and conducting performance management reviews
Familiarity covering U.S. news and trends
Experience of various social media platforms
Detailed knowledge of SEO
Capable of working to tight deadlines
Must be able to work flexible hours
Professional and productive under pressure
