This is a leadership role at a premier journalism center located at Harvard University. The deputy curator is a key member of the Nieman Foundation staff, reporting to and working with the curator to increase the foundation’s impact and excellence in a dramatically evolving media ecosystem.
The deputy curator is responsible for leading the day-to-day management of a range of journalistic priorities at the Nieman Foundation, including training programs for Nieman Fellows, publishing, audience engagement, seminar programming, conferences, special events, prizes, communications, and the oversight of staff assigned to this work. The deputy curator serves as a key liaison between Nieman and our Harvard University partners, including faculty, administrators, and students.
Position Description
Responsibilities will include organizing programming for fellows, alumni, and the greater community of journalists, as well as students, academics, technologists, and others interested in the future and quality of journalism.
This person will work with the curator on long-range planning and setting priorities, and in support of such duties as fellow recruitment and selection, alumni outreach, and development.
Basic Qualifications
College degree in journalism or a related field and a minimum of ten years experience as an accomplished journalist, including time in a management role.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
A demonstrated record of journalistic achievement, proven leadership ability, strong journalistic values, and experience with multiple forms of news media. Fluency with the challenges facing public service journalism and a demonstrated commitment to addressing them. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, editing experience, and skill at working in a diverse, international environment. Familiarity with the fellowship program is valuable.
