Job Description
Our Wide World of Sports team is looking for an Afternoon Editor to lead editorial staff and write and publish stories.
Day to day you will:
Lead Editorial decision making (which stories to prioritise)
Manage/mentor junior staff
Assign stories
Sub-edit
Write/publish stories
Please note this position requires shift / roster work. The shifts are generally 12-8pm with some later shifts (3-11pm at least one night a week). There is some weekend work required.
Qualifications
What we would like to see:
Proven experience in media
A passion for sport and preferably strong knowledge and/or background in either NRL, tennis, cricket, AFL, motorsport or combat sports
Enthusiasm for the Olympics. Paris 2024 will be a huge focus for our newsroom and you will take a pivotal role in our coverage
You will be a leader, capable of setting an example and mentoring junior staff
Must be a strong writer and storyteller with a good eye for an angle that will work for a large digital audience and possess the ability to craft an engaging headline
You will have knowledge of SEO and an ability to use social media and other tools to promote WWOS content
An understanding of how to tell a story with video at its heart is key
A background in digital media and experience using a CMS is required
