Job Description
The Sydney Morning Herald is seeking a full-time weekend and night homepage editor to join its editorial production team.
Day to day you will:
Edit the smh.com.au homepage
Attend news conferences and directing breaking news reporters
Sub-edit, producing and publishing stories for digital platforms
Source photos, graphics, videos, and social media assets
Work with reporters to edit and rewrite copy to the highest standards
Write and checking online headlines and SEO, captions, and write-offs/precedes
Communicate with reporters, editors and production editors
Edit and post to social media platforms
The role will involve a mix of shifts, including evening hours and weekend work.
Qualifications
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated team player with a passion for words, data and communicating stories. The successful candidate will have newsroom experience, working to tight deadlines. A strong understanding of a range of topics and current affairs is essential as is experience making informed decisions based on interpreting real-time data.
What we would like to see:
Demonstrated experience in homepage editing, sub-editing and production for online publishing
Excellent knowledge of the English language, grammar and syntax
An understanding of legal best-practice, including defamation laws.
A working understanding of social media is also essential.
