News Reporter

New Posted 26 June 2023 | Lincoln, Nebraska | North Platte Telegraph

The North Platte Telegraph has an immediate opening for a full-time local news reporter focusing on education and business. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to craft meaningful stories about a wide range of local issues, with a focus on education and local business, including agriculture and health care.

Beyond covering school board meetings, this reporter will need to get out into the community to study the real-life impact of the decisions being made both in public and behind closed doors. The reporter also will cover many non-athletic activities in the local schools, public and parochial.

Agriculture, health care and tourism drive North Platte’s economy, and this reporter will need to become well-versed in all three. The city’s economy is growing, with new businesses opening in a former mall being reinvented as a shopping/entertainment/living district. A beef plant under construction is expected to bring 875 jobs. Union Pacific’s Bailey Yard handles 14,000 train cars a day and draws 30,000 train fans annually to the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center.
