The Night News editor is responsible for leading the newsroom at night and ensuring successful creation and publication of news on print and digital platforms.
What you will do:
Organizing the daily news budget for print, with input from the content directors
Working with the Design and Production Studio liaison and DPS designers to ensure proper execution of the newsroom's print plan by deadline
Checking pages during production to ensure no major errors with headlines or display type
Monitoring local and national media to make adjustments to story play as needed
Supervising the night news reporter, which includes making assignments and editing the reporter's stories as needed
Editing any late-breaking stories filed by other reporters in the newsroom
Writing up breaking news stories at night, if necessary
Managing the OrlandoSentinel.com homepage at night during the night editor shift, adding stories and sending news alerts as needed
Working with print page production on any special print space requests or special print sections
What you will bring:
The ability to work Tuesday-Saturday position that works nights
Bachelor's degree in journalism preferred
Proven experience as a content editor, or in a similar role in a media organization
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy
Familiarity with journalistic ethics, standards, and best practices
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Adaptability to evolving news cycles and a fast-paced work environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
