The Correspondent Assistant is responsible for a wide variety of administrative and research support for the Correspondents of a nightly national news program. The Correspondent Assistant will work with the rest of the broadcast support staff to ensure smooth operations and communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform various administrative tasks, including office communications, scheduling and appointments, maintain calendars, arranging travel and schedules, answering phone calls and preparing expense reports.
Conduct online research as requested by Correspondents and Senior Producers about news stories and reports.
Use good judgement in determining the relative importance and urgency of communications, either forwarding or re-directing to the appropriate staff member, or handling directly.
Communicate professionally and discreetly with critical stakeholders and VIP officials.
Perform other PBS NewsHour duties as assigned, including (but not limited to) ordering meals for staff for special events, ordering office supplies, maintaining updates to staff phone lists and generally the day to day functions of a busy newsroom and office.
Accompany Correspondent on occasional travel assignments.
Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
