PitchBook’s news team seeks a financial news reporter to track and cover a wide range of breaking news, daily deals, and more. In this fast-paced role, you will report on and write about key daily developments in private market deal-making, such as funding of venture capital-backed startups, investments by private equity firms, acquisitions, and fundraising moves by investment groups of all types. You will play a pivotal role in how the PitchBook news desk monitors news and announcements from around the world and helps the broader team prioritize daily opportunities for news coverage across our various channels. This is an outstanding opportunity for early-career journalists interested in gaining foundational reporting experience and financial-market knowledge in a dynamic editorial team with high potential for growth and development.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Monitor and scour real-time newswires, regulatory filings, internal research reports, and other financial news outlets to evaluate them for potential coverage opportunities
Report and write your own news stories, packages of daily briefs, and longer-form feature articles
Contribute news content for daily newsletters, including summaries and short commentaries about breaking news reported from all corners of the financial markets
Provide other newsgathering, data analysis, image sourcing, and related editorial tasks as assigned by the editors
Be an active participant and contributor in regular news staff meetings to brainstorm story ideas, coverage opportunities and longer-term projects or initiatives
Travel as needed to news-making events and be able to do spot reporting or other newsgathering for original articles
Skills and Qualifications:
1+ year of daily news reporting experience, ideally in financial journalism or a related field
Skilled in clear and concise journalistic writing that is delivered quickly and cleanly
Demonstrate news judgment and a bias for decisiveness and production
Work well under deadline pressure and is able to turn out news stories on short notice
Team player who collaborates across the news team and other departments
Ability to understand and explain complex financial topics in straightforward, jargon-free terms
Competent in working with data sets and performing robust quantitative analysis
Takes initiative and can pitch and develop your own story topics independently
Able to travel to industry events and meet in person with professional sources
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily

Compensation
Annual base salary: $64,225 - $80,000
Target annual bonus percentage: 5%
Starting pay will be based on several factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be different ranges for candidates by location.
