Dayton Martindale, Editor at Large at Barn Raising Media, is looking for pitches: Hello writers! I'm now editor-at-large for The Barn Raiser, a new progressive rural / small town publication set to launch in coming weeks. Pitch me your stories on food and agriculture, wildlife conservation, Native issues, rural elections, climate, and more: dayton@barnraisingmedia.com We take reported pieces, op-eds, book reviews, interviews, etc. Bonus points for Wisconsin-focused stories, we are launching a special state-focused publication there. And yes, we pay (exact amount varies based on length/level of reporting). More info: barnraisingmedia.com. We are accepting pitches on a rolling basis for the foreseeable future. Pay varies based on length and level of reporting needed, but for news pieces the pay scale is $200 (short, little original reporting) to $500 (longer, more in-depth reporting). Roughly similar idea for opinion, reviews, and Q+As. For the most part, I'm not looking for anything more than 2000 words. We are focusing on topics that are directly relevant to small-town/rural US.
