I am looking for pitches! The writer can be out of town as long as the story has a strong tie to Pittsburgh. The guidelines are found below. Rates are anywhere from $150 to $500 depending on the amount of work involved.
GUIDELINES:
I want your cool, offbeat story ideas, your scoops, your secrets, your insights, your exposés – I want it all for Pittsburgh City Paper. How can you pitch me, and what, more specifically, am I looking for? Let’s get into it.
1. Magazine-style features. These are well-researched deep dives with an angle. They can be on a local subculture, trend, scene, movement, etc. – almost anything happening here in Pittsburgh that is little-known and fascinating.
2. Roundups. Best bagels and best sushi are fine, but what about the best bars for drinking alone? Or the best Pittsburgh parking hacks? Or the sexiest makeout spots? Or the most underrated rides at Kennywood? I want to know it all.
3. Hot, but not bad, takes. Give me a rant. Give me an ode. Tell me your top Pittsburgh pet peeve or your favorite Pittsburgh perk. Whatever it is, I’m interested in your personal Pittsburgh essay, especially if it evokes strong opinions and sparks a conversation.
Rates run anywhere from $150 to $500 depending on the amount of work involved.
Send whatever you’ve got to ali@pghcitypaper.com. Use “Pitch:” in the subject line, followed by a headline suggestion or synopsis of your idea. Got something else that doesn’t fit into these buckets but you think is perfect for us? Try me!
