Digital Reporter

PIX11 News is looking for a full-time passionate, talented, and hard-working Digital Reporter to write and publish content on PIX11.com.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for local news, with an emphasis on ideating, reporting, and writing compelling stories that will generate pageviews and help take PIX11.com to the next level as an important source for local news and video.

The right person for this job will be an SEO expert, with an experienced eye for what makes a story interesting, and the ability to write multiple articles per day.

This role includes the possibility of morning, evening and/or weekend shifts.

The position’s chief responsibilities require that the digital reporter:

Pitch, write and publish multiple original stories to PIX11.com each day. A comprehensive understanding of AP style is vital.
Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and cover breaking news quickly and accurately. Digital reporters are expected to pivot to breaking news stories, as well as generate “hour two” and “day two” content ideas that move the story forward.
Be proactive in content discovery, identify potential viral social media content, keep abreast of breaking local news and have a pulse on stories that are important to the PIX11 audience.
Know about SEO best practices and website optimization with a demonstrated track record of generating pageviews. The ability to write strong headlines is essential.
Write compelling social media copy and post stories to PIX11’s platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.
Be familiar with website analytics and how to use these metrics to inform future editorial decisions, grow our digital audience and drive pageview traffic.
Copy edit content on PIX11.com, keeping in mind both grammar and AP style.

Requirements And Skills

Minimum of 2-3 years of reporting or writing experience in a digital space or similar experience in a print or television newsroom.
Ability to work professionally with station staff to put out the best possible digital product. Applicants should possess the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team, including fellow digital producers, assignment editors, reporters and TV producers.
Passion for the news, digital presentation and a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
Curiosity about the latest digital tools and a willingness to experiment with new ways to tell stories and reach a wider audience.
Knowledge of the following tools is a plus: WordPress, Crowdtangle, Google Trends, Google Analytics, and Chartbeat.
At the time of your application, please be prepared to show at least five writing samples published within the last two years.
