POLITICO is seeking a deputy editor to help lead its California team, an enterprising group of journalists covering the policies and politics of the largest U.S. state whose influence is slated to grow with the new Biden administration. We’re looking for someone with a track record of delivering scoops about the Legislature and the state’s agencies. From breaking news to deep-dive investigative stories, the job will provide a range of challenges and opportunities for the right person to shine. What you’ll do: Work closely with the California editor and a talented team of reporters to set coverage priorities, edit stories for all POLITICO platforms and develop new strategies to deliver content to an audience of top policy makers and power players. Work with the team to deliver hard-hitting accountability journalism on the policy and politics of one of the most influential states and the Newsom administration, which is of interest to our state and national audiences. Edit a mix of full-length articles and short pieces, both breaking news and enterprise, plus newsletters. Work with other editors across the newsroom to identify and produce stories with broader reach that connect the dots among the world’s power centers.
