POLITICO Europe is seeking a news editor to join us on an Eastern Daylight Time schedule.

The ideal candidate will have a strong news sense and sharp editing skills, as well as an interest in European politics and an understanding of how to craft stories for an audience based largely in Europe.

The role is a busy, hands-on editing job that involves close collaboration with editors and reporters in Brussels and London. Acting as a bridge with our editing team in Australia, this role is focused on supporting the delivery of top-quality journalism for our European homepage.

We’re seeking someone who is comfortable working at speed and with flexibility in a fast-growing media company, ideally working a Sunday-to-Thursday schedule. This is a full-time, remote-working position under an independent contractor status, reporting into our newsroom in Brussels.

What You’ll Do

Line edit news, feature stories and newsletters
Set the direction for coverage of news as it breaks
Work independently to direct homepage placement for stories
Work closely and collaboratively with editors and reporters in other time zones

What You'll Need

Track record of sharp editing and excellent news judgment
Written and verbal fluency in English
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure and on deadline
Working knowledge of EU and/or national European politics and policy a strong plus
