The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram seeks a top-notch journalist to cover breaking news on weekends. We are an ambitious news organization with high standards, and we need a self-motivated reporter who can work efficiently with minimal supervision.
This is an important part-time position and a great fit for a journalist who likes to work alone. OK, the hours aren’t ideal – you’ll work Saturdays and Sundays – but it’s a great opportunity for the right person. You’ll cover lots of breaking news and daily feature stories, and you’ll have opportunities to work on bigger pieces. Speed and accuracy are paramount: When news occurs, you need to get it posted to the web fast – and get it right. Some days this can be a hectic, stressful job. There are slower days, for sure, but the ideal reporter will use them to work on enterprise stories, in coordination with an assignment editor.
Successful candidates will have daily news experience and be able to submit clips that demonstrate proficiency covering breaking news and crystal-clear writing. You also must be comfortable in a digital-first environment.
If you are the best at what you do and share our zeal for ambitious journalism, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Relocation expenses are not available. Local candidates preferred. Send your resume and five examples of your best work to Executive Editor Steve Greenlee at sgreenlee@pressherald.com.
We are an EEO employer.
