Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, the Manager of Communications works closely with the Dean of the Faculty and senior leaders in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (ODoF) to raise the visibility of the office and its constituents via communications, marketing, and public relations initiatives, which ensure that the messages, both tactical and strategic, are universally understood, remembered, and valued by all constituents. The Manager of Communications is responsible for the strategy, development and tactical implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for ODoF, including all print, web, video and collateral media. This person is experienced with overseeing branding and identity, market research, strategic message development, collateral development, printed, electronic, and video communications materials, including (but not limited to) newsletters, report, brochures, proposals, surveys, web and email messaging and content, marketing flyers, posters, event signage, and presentations for all constituents. This person would work with University Printing and outside contractors to produce and deliver high quality communications materials, which involves knowledge of constituent needs and preferences.

The Manager of Communications assists with public relations for external constituents including alumni, employers, professional associations, peer institutions, the media and the public. The person works in partnership with the University's Communications Department on media relations and with staff responsible for communications throughout the University (e.g., administrative offices and University academic departments) to ensure that ODoF's communications are well coordinated with institutional communication strategies.

The Manager of Communications works closely with ODoFâ™s senior leaders on high-level projects, including the development of presentations and reports, as well as requests for funding and staffing, proposals, and grant writing. They also develop and deliver presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees as well as external audiences.

Responsibilities

Communications

Writing and editing news and feature content for web, digital display and print. Scans University news, collects and adapts stories and content for the Office of the Dean of the Faculty website, slideshow, newsletter, and other uses.
Writing and editing executive-level and administrative correspondence.
Proofreading/fact-checking correspondence, collateral materials, and other communications, as needed.
Develop and refine ODoFâ™s "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency across all mediums and platforms.
Develop and implement communication strategies that effectively convey the mission, priorities, and accomplishments of ODoF to both internal (students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees) and external audiences (alumni, the media) as well as broaden reach and deepen impact and engagement.
Utilize effective composition, visual design, and editorial skills, ensuring all communications and marketing materials adhere to University visual identity standards and style guides.
Act as first contact for all communications inquiries and requests from various media outlets on behalf of the Dean and senior leaders in ODoF.
Develop, write, edit, and publish news articles and releases regarding the departmentâ™s work and accomplishments for internal and external use.
Advise dean and staff with regard to responses to sensitive and/or high-level inquiries or issues.
Lead the generation of daily online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.
Serve as executive editor on mission-critical departmental communications and for additions to website content.
Write and design materials for ODoF appointees.
Develop content and graphic design for key internal and external reports and publications.
Develop content for key University publications to promote ODoF.
Research, write, edit, and design pages to update content on an annual basis for comprehensive publication and coordinate print and online distribution.
Uses web analytics to monitor and report on usage as well as make recommendations for continuous improvements.
