About the Role:
G/O Media is currently looking for an Editor-in-Chief to lead and grow Quartz, one of the Internet’s most widely respected business news websites. $125,000 to $180,000 Yearly
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive editing and reporting experience and a deep understanding of both the Quartz unique editorial voice and its role in the national and international business news category. The Quartz Editor-in-Chief will lead a team of about twenty-five full-time writers, editors, and video producers, as well as a network of freelance contributors across the globe. She/He/They must have a demonstrable passion for news about business, finance, policy, technology, and the markets.
The ideal candidate will have a clear vision of how to evolve Quartz to best serve audiences in a competitive dynamic business news field with an audience focus on what Americans are looking for in terms of coverage of U.S. and non-U.S. impactful companies, important trends, new ways of running businesses, their careers and the impact technology is having on all facets of business life. You are plugged in, well-sourced, opinionated, and experienced. You’re comfortable mentoring young writers and hungry for scoops. This is a big job, and you’re ready for it.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Set the strategic editorial policy for the site commensurate with the company’s overall goals
Ensure the site’s work across all platforms meets the highest standards of editorial excellence and positions the site as authoritative and agenda-setting
Move quickly to cover breaking news and work to be a major source of news when it comes to the biggest stories in the business world
Stewardship of the site’s unique and authoritative voice, based on strong points of view, conversational style and a skepticism of conventional wisdom
Oversee daily production of the site’s output across multiple distribution channels
Meet targets for growing the reach, loyalty and engagement of the site’s audience
Hire, retain and develop editorial staff
Manage the editorial budget
Represent the title externally at events and in the media to raise its profile
Qualifications:
Strong leadership skills with at least five years’ experience of managing a team of journalists in a fast-paced deadline-driven, digital environment
Experience in video, TV, podcasts, and other platforms Quartz will continue to evolve with and grow into
First-rate editorial judgment and editorial skills
Ability to generate original ideas for creative and engaging content
Demonstrable interpersonal skills with the ability to manage, motivate and mentor a diverse and talented team of writers and editors
Strong collaborative skills, including experience of liaising with stakeholders across the company

The salary range for this position is $125,000.00 to $180,000.00

We're better together! G/O Media is back in office with 6 work-from-home days per month. This role is based in our New York City Office.
