The Role: Recorded Future is looking for an editor to join our research team, Insikt Group. The right candidate for this position will have a passion for reading and writing, with strong attention to detail. Our editorial staff are responsible for managing multiple projects across various topics, delivering world-class analytic products on deadline. Recorded Future research covers a variety of security topics. One day, you could be correcting style points in a piece on the latest ransomware variant; the next, coordinating with our public relations team on an exclusive, tier-one article about rising tensions between nation-states. It is imperative that candidates are able to move fluidly between topics, bringing linguistic and narrative expertise and effectively communicating with a diverse group of stakeholders.
What you will do as Editor:
Learn and contribute to our in-house style guide.Edit research reports, and other content according to our in-house style guide.
Maintain and develop our publication workflows for a variety of publication types.
Work with analysts, some of whom are not first-language English speakers, to improve their writing style, narrative flow, and grammar.
Provide feedback and direction to research authors and reviewers related to voice, spelling and grammatical correctness, narrative flow, and logical consistency.
Format written and graphical content of intelligence products according to our design standards.
Manage multiple production timelines, ensuring research is on track for timely delivery.
Coordinate with internal partners in Marketing and Corporate Communications to support public-facing materials, campaigns, and press engagements.
Publish drafts on a web-based content management system (CMS).
Present publication workflows, style guides, and writing tips to our global analyst team.
Practice discretion by maintaining client and analyst confidentiality.
What you’ll bring as Editor:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or the social sciences
Three years of experience editing long-form research and editorials
Native proficiency in English
A passion for reading and literary analysis
A clear, engaging, jargon-free writing and editing style that can communicate technical concepts to expert and non-expert audiences
Willingness to independently collaborate and communicate with all stakeholders to solve editorial issues and address requests from authors and management
Superb communication skills
Organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects across multiple time zones
Proficiency with Microsoft or Google office software suites
Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
Highly Desirable Skills/Experience (not required):
Master’s degree in English, humanities, or social sciences or five years of experience editing in a journalistic role
Proficiency in other languages (Russian, Chinese, Arabic, etc.)
Experience editing for writers whose native language is other than English
Familiarity with and experience applying the Intelligence Cycle
A foundational understanding of the information security industry and key issues in both cyber and international security
Previous experience editing for a cybersecurity organization
Proficient with Google Workspace (Gmail, Meet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud
Previous experience with JIRA and Zendesk ticketing systems
