The Alaska Journal of Commerce is looking for a reporter to cover fisheries, health care, telecom and tourism. We cover Alaska’s business and economy in-depth for smart, demanding readers. We cover breaking news when it makes sense, but our real focus is deeper, next-level coverage that readers can depend on to inform decisions and understand business and the economy in Alaska. We’re looking for a reporter who can help us cover some of the key business sectors in Alaska with an emphasis on Alaska’s complex, competitive fishing industry. It’s a sprawling, under-covered beat with global reach. It’s big business in Alaska, a state that produces more than half of the nation’s seafood. Ability to generate ideas is a must, as are the basics: accuracy, fairness, clear and engaging writing. You think critically, can see through spin and process, and are driven to report not just what happened but why. You’ll be responsible for producing several stories per week. Some travel required.
