Do you have experience in journalism, a passion for Mid-Coast Maine, strong attention to detail, a journalist’s sense of curiosity, and editorial integrity?

The Times Record Sports Reporter creates stories about our local teams and athletes. It’s not just about the game coverage, but also finding and featuring players and coaches with great stories to tell. The reporter identifies trends and matters of public concern on and off the field, using various research methods and interviews, and assists in the development of other content that would be of interest to our readers. The right candidate works with depth, balance, accuracy and speed and an eye toward informing, enlightening and entertaining.

Responsibilities

Covers local sporting events and keeps fans up to date with the latest on their favorite teams.

Reports and writes in a variety of styles as assigned, including, but not limited to news stories, features, narratives, first-person accounts, columns, briefs, captions and text within graphics and other visual presentations.

Makes dynamic photography of the events covered for publication online and in print.

Stays plugged in to the sports community to learn what readers care about and generate story ideas.

Demonstrates good organization and time management.

Completes work as prioritized to meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have experience in journalism and a passion for Mid-Coast Maine. You have a strong attention to detail, and a journalist’s sense of curiosity and editorial integrity.

The Times Record serves Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, Freeport, Wiscasset, Phippsburg, Harpswell and the Island communities of Midcoast Maine. We are looking for a sports reporter that lives in or has a strong connection to these communities.

This position is hybrid, with access to any Maine Trust office location. Meetings may be held at the Maine Trust South Portland HQ located at 295 Gannett Drive.
