Reporter, Health & Equity

New Posted 28 August 2022 | Concord, New Hampshire | New Hampshire Public Radio

New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a curious, innovative and thoughtful reporter to join our newsroom and cover health with a special focus on equity and justice. As in the rest of the country, COVID-19 has exposed the links in New Hampshire between individual health outcomes and long-standing racial, economic and social inequities. And we’re looking for a reporter who can tell stories that reflect the increasing diversity of New Hampshire, including its growing immigrant communities. The health and equity reporter will examine health and health care systems through the lens of race, equity, and demographic change. Other dynamics that will shape this beat include the state’s continuing opioid crisis, hospital consolidation, access to health care, reproductive health care, and poverty. You will also join other reporters in the newsroom in covering elections and occasional general assignment duties. Our ideal candidate will have a background in broadcast, print or digital journalism and will be ready to jump on breaking news, but we’re also looking for someone with a passion for creative storytelling and exploring unexpected stories that touch our audience and make an impact. Collaboration is also key to how we work, and we’re looking for someone who loves teaming up with others. NHPR is committed to mentoring our journalists, including candidates from untraditional professional backgrounds, and helping them develop as journalists and leaders. This position reports to a Senior News Editor and is based in our newsroom in Concord, NH, with flexibility to work remotely some days per week.
