This position will be based in either Berlin or Frankfurt, Germany.
Reuters are looking for an enthusiastic and news-hungry journalist with excellent organizational skills and a strong commitment to speed to join the leadership team of the Breaking News Hub for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As Breaking News Editor, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day text news production in both German and English and or coordinating with both the visuals team and other Reuters bureaus. You will also play a key role in ensuring that our clients receive fast and insightful coverage of the top stories out of the region in both German and English.
The successful candidate will keep a close eye on key timings and the quality and speed of copy and ensure thorough forward planning both in terms of news coverage and desk staffing. The position also requires strong leadership skills as well as an ability to motivate and to lead by example. It offers an opportunity to dive into the thick of the news file and experience many facets of coverage in a fast-paced environment. It creates a unique opportunity for a creative, forward-thinking leader to help shape news production out of Germany for years to come.
About the Role
As Breaking News Editor for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, at Reuters, you will:
Be responsible for the joint-leadership of the Breaking News Hub team, consisting of desk-staff and sub-editors that produces news in both German and English.
Manage day-to-day coverage out of Germany, Austria & Switzerland as duty editor.
Manage the coordination of breaking news coverage.
Liaise with TV and Picture Desk teams to ensure multimedia stories are of the required standard.
Manage and coordinate our integrated newsroom's resources effectively, forward planning for specific future events.
Play a key role in producing meticulously researched stories at speed by ensuring smart use of technology and training among the wider team.
Write spot copy and editing in both German and English.
Report to Sabine Wollrab, Bureau Chief for Germany/Austria/Switzerland.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Breaking News Editor for Germany, Austria and Switzerland if you have:
Significant experience in reporting and editing, with excellent communication skills in both German and English.
Familiarity with the corporate and political landscapes across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
A great news judgment, with an interest in both writing and editing a variety of news stories.
A good understanding of Reuters’ multimedia offering with the ability to lead an experienced team.
Great interpersonal skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure
