Reuters is seeking an outstanding and enterprising newsroom leader to drive our coverage of North and South Korea, at a time of escalating security and economic challenges.
The successful candidate will lead agenda-setting coverage of Korea; set coverage priorities and provide direction to reporters; produce in-depth and distinguished journalism; and oversee breaking news under pressure. He or she will have a history of leading news teams and a good understanding of the news needs of financial specialists, media subscribers and the readers of Reuters.com. The bureau chief will also have a knack for spotting the stories that demand global attention and an understanding of how to tell those across video, pictures, graphics and text.
The position will be based in Seoul and will report to Soyoung Kim, Editor for North Asia, Southeast Asia and Australasia.
As Korea Bureau Chief, you will:
Lead from the front in news planning and editing for both business and media subscribers
Develop and sustain a newsroom that produces exclusives, breaks news and works at depth on initiative reporting
Coordinate across Reuters text and visuals teams and with editors, bureau chiefs and correspondents around the globe.
You’re a fit for the role of Korea Bureau Chief if your background includes:
A track record of running agenda-setting coverage
At least ten years of experience in reporting and editing, including management of a larger newsroom.
A record of developing scoops and reporters with an ability to write with flair.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across teams including visuals
Experience in reporting and editing on business and finance a plus
Korean language or prior experience of working in Korea required
