Practical Law is looking for a Senior Associate Editor - Real Estate to conduct research, draft, edit, and publish content for its on-line Real Estate Service.
About the Role:
In this opportunity as a Senior Associate Editor, you will:
Use the Senior Associate Editor's expertise and practical experience to research, interpret, and explain legal, practice, and market developments to our customers through on-line content. With support, where appropriate, Senior Associate Editors research, write, commission, review, and deliver well-written, up-to-date content for on-line publication that reflects current market practice. Senior Associate Editors produce and maintain existing Practical Law content, answer customer queries, work with external contributors, and ensure all content is of the quality and scope that meets business objectives and customer needs.
Work with Senior State Specialist Editors to draft, edit, and update state-specific real estate resources, with an emphasis on content across multiple jurisdictions. The resources include practice notes, checklists, standard documents, standard clauses, legal updates, other state-specific legal content in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
Carry out search trawls of numerous websites and other sources using, among other things, the software application WebSite-Watcher for current developments and potential topics for legal updates and other state specific resources for the Real Estate Service.
Edit state-specific real estate resources to conform to Practical Law’s house style and plain English.
Develop ideas for new state real estate content with an emphasis on multi-state resources, which are to be published on Practical Law.
Liaise with external authors regarding original contributions and updates of Practical Law resources.
Maintain and manage internal progress charts, databases, and folders.
Provide additional research and editorial support for the Real Estate Service as required.
About You:
You're a fit for the role of Senior Associate Editor if you have:
At least three (3) years’ experience working as a real estate attorney in a law firm or as in-house counsel, including experience at either a large firm with a real estate group or a boutique firm with a sophisticated real estate practice.
Demonstrated and passion for writing, editorial, analytical, and research skills, including:
Best practice guidance
Very close attention to detail;
Impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
The ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
Demonstrated knowledge of the topics covered by Practical Law Real Estate, including:
Commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, ownership, and sales of various types of commercial real estate; financing of commercial real estate, including permanent loans and construction loans; foreclosure and mechanic's liens; and leasing of commercial real estate.
Residential real estate transactions, including acquisition, sale, leasing, and financing of single family, multi-family, co-ops, and condos.
Real estate leasing, including office buildings, retail, industrial, warehouse, mixed-use, single family, and multi-family.
Strong academic credentials, communication skills, work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
Experience drafting and negotiating real estate-related documents.
Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
A good understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and the legal market in general.
Recent experience using Westlaw for legal research.
Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively track productivity and ensure product development milestones are met.
Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members in a remote environment without on-site technical support.
