Financial Services Editor, Americas

New Posted 17 April 2018 | New York, NY | Thomson Reuters

Reuters is seeking a seasoned newsroom leader to oversee our coverage of banks and financial services in the Americas. As we approach the 10th anniversary of the financial crisis, many of the issues that caused the meltdown are a distant memory. Economic growth, rising rates and lower taxes are set to benefit banks. Wall Street lobbyists are trying to undo onerous regulations put in place after the crisis, hoping to seize on the deregulatory zeal of the Trump administration. But there are also risks. Market froth, apparent in phenomena like the rise of crypto currencies, can hide serious risks. Rising populism, international trade showdowns and geopolitical uncertainty will affect the financial industry through events like Brexit. Fintech is fast disrupting traditional business models and many of the big banks are also due for leadership changes.

The financial services editor will tell the story of a changing Wall Street and the challenges facing it and the rest of the industry. Based in New York, the editor will work with a talented team of reporters in New York and Washington, as well as bureaus around the region. The successful candidate for this high-profile role must be able to juggle daily news while driving insightful enterprise stories about banks, insurers, investment firms and other financial institutions. She or he must be able to conceptualize and edit deeper stories that have exclusive information and tell our readers something unexpected or new about the industry. To that end, the candidate must demonstrate keen skills at prioritization and delegation.
