Rolling Stone, a leading cultural force for more than 50 years, is looking for an editor to drive our coverage of the biggest stories in U.S. politics — the 2024 campaign, the courts, the climate, and the battle over our fundamental rights.

The ideal candidate has a hunger to break news, a knack for sharp story angles, a proven track record of running reporters, and an understanding at an instinctual level what makes a story work for Rolling Stone. The candidate must have the ability to craft features, deliver scoops, and respond to fast-moving events. That means excellent editorial judgment is an absolute must, as is the ability to produce stories of interest to diverse communities with sensitivity and style.
Responsibilities:
Manage a team of six journalists focused on advancing the most important politics stories of the day.
Assign and edit major features on the 2024 campaign, the courts, the climate, and more.
Lead investigations that uncover news about Washington’s worst actors.
Brainstorm coverage ideas with reporters, videographers, photographers, social media specialists, and other editors.
Serve as a member of Rolling Stone’s senior leadership team, helping set strategy for the brand.
Requirements:
5-10 years’ experience in political journalism
A proven track record of delivering exclusive and high-quality material on deadline.
The ability to craft major feature stories and profiles.
Excellent news judgment and communications skills.
The capacity to juggle many projects at once and keep a cool head under pressure.
A deep sense of what makes a story right for Rolling Stone.
A commitment to collaborating with colleagues at every level of the organization.
Typical wage range: $100k - $120k
