Fast-growing trade publication covering the electric power industry seeks energetic, inquisitive beat reporter. You will cover the California governmental bodies affecting electric utilities and climate policy (i.e., state legislature, California Energy Commission, California Public Utilities Commission) and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), based in Folsom, CA.
As an independent system operator, CAISO (http://www.caiso.com/) manages the electric grid and wholesale electric markets -- a combination of an air traffic controller and the New York Stock Exchange. You'll also be writing up filings with -- and rulings by -- the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (www.ferc.gov) plus enterprise stories.
We seek someone able to translate complex issues into readable prose. Knowledge of economics, business concepts and basic physics helpful.
We are building The Wall Street Journal of the electric power industry. We are based outside of Washington, D.C., with writers spread across the USA. We were founded by an award-winning former reporter and editor with The Philadelphia Inquirer and Bloomberg who believes trade publications don't have to be dull. The ideal candidate will be a critical member of our team.
