The Santa Monica Daily Press, the only daily newspaper on LA’s westside, is seeking a hard news reporter who believes in accountability journalism and has a passion for digging deep into the issues affecting the community. We are looking for applicants who have a natural curiosity about the world and are tenacious about the work of journalism. This is a general assignment position but the successful candidate will cover a mix of civic meetings, breaking news and feature stories. Primary duties include 6 to 10 stories per week and reporters are expected to take their own photos. Supplemental responsibilities include as-needed support for basic copyediting, social media updates and recorded interviews for our podcast. This is a full-time, salary position with paid vacation and benefits. This is not a remote work position and reporters work out of our Santa Monica office.
To apply, send a resume, cover letter and clips to editor@smdp.com with "reporter application" in the subject line.
