We are seeking an experienced Senior Commerce Editor with a strong background in writing and editing health and fitness affiliate content to join the SELF team. The Senior Commerce Editor will primarily be responsible for editing shopping content for SELF and ensuring that it is engaging, inclusive, and accurate, and that it inspires and motivates readers.
You will be expected to publish 10 commerce articles per week and should be comfortable handling multiple stories at once, at various stages of the pitch-to-publish process (fact-checking one story while restructuring a draft of another). The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the health and fitness landscape, strong scientific literacy, and knowledge of SEO best practices. They should have experience editing health- and fitness-related commerce content, ensuring it meets the same editorial standards as the rest of SELF’s coverage, and must know how to write about products in a lively, engaging way that meets revenue goals while adhering to the brand’s voice and values.
This position will report directly to SELF’s Commerce Director.
Responsibilities:
Edit/publish 10 articles per week, focusing on service-minded shopping roundups with a heavy focus on sleep and fitness/exercise products.
Working closely with direct reports, freelancers, and data analysts to take content from pitch to publication and meet revenue needs.
Rigorously fact-check and line-edit a draft before filing it to the top editor.
Maintain SELF’s brand, voice, and aesthetic guidelines across all content and channels.
Partner with the Commerce Director, and third-party partners to ensure content is monetized effectively.
Update your editorial slate and lineup with realistic deadlines and publish dates.
Understand various analytics metrics, and take action to meet targets as needed.
Team leadership and career development of the content and production teams to develop a best-in-class multi-skilled commerce team that successfully blends creativity with business insights.

Requirements:
A minimum of four years of relevant health and fitness writing/editing and at least two years of commerce/affiliate writing or editing.
A background in service journalism, ideally as it relates to health and wellness.
Strong scientific literacy and a deep understanding of health reporting best practices.
The ability to produce clean, accurate, and fun copy in a fast-paced environment, and in a conversational, approachable tone that inspires readers.
Deep understanding of affiliate and SEO best practices.
Stellar communication skills, both with colleagues and freelance contributors.
A strong belief in inclusivity as it relates to identity, body size, and health, writ large.
Base Salary: $85,000 - $103,000
