Senior Editor

MahoningMatters.com is looking for its next senior editor, a leader responsible for the vision of the site, as well as the newsroom’s content, strategy, personnel and experimentation. The senior editor will lead Mahoning Matters, a civic-minded community news source for the city of Youngstown, Ohio, and the Mahoning Valley. Mahoning Matters was founded in October 2019 with the mission to tell the stories that matter in the Mahoning Valley and empower citizens to engage in their community with a focus on solutions and digital experimentation. The ideal candidate should be comfortable juggling and shifting priorities throughout the day, and not afraid to take a hands-on approach with writing and editing. You’ll work collaboratively with journalists and contributors in your own newsroom, but also editors in nearby regions, as a built-in support system. This editor should have a strong background in digital news, and will be expected to utilize digital analytics and tools to the newsroom’s benefit while understanding some key nuances. You should be comfortable analyzing story performance, identifying audiences and how we reach them, and collaborating with other teams to distribute that content to multiple platforms, especially through daily email newsletters.
