We are looking for a Senior News and Feature Writer who will create a huge variety of content types, with an emphasis on news and features stories that highlight Our Future Health’s unprecedented journey. The successful News and Feature Writer will find people with stories to tell, write in-depth human case studies, interview experts, and generally lend a hand wherever and whenever words are needed.  

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.

What you’ll be doing 

In this role your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Writing stories that capture the essence of Our Future Health. Stories will span a range of styles and formats, including news stories, case studies, interviews, 1st person ghosts, email newsletters, and audio/video scripts.  
Using your contacts book and nous to secure supportive interviews with healthcare leaders and VIPs.  
Finding and telling our volunteers’ best stories. 
Performing research on a variety of healthcare topics.  
Analysing and interpreting findings by breaking down data.  
Ensuring our content is accurate, informative, and written with our audience’s needs in mind.  
Contributing to content idea generation for publication.  
Staying up-to-date with local, national and international affairs.  
Pitching ideas for new stories.  
Developing a deep understanding of our forums and creating feature content that brings the best of our community’s conversations to a wider audience.  

Requirements

We are looking for a wordsmith who can elevate our news and features content. You will have experience finding and writing non-fiction stories, most likely in journalism; and you will know how to spot a typo at ten paces. Most importantly, you will write with flair and rigour, helping Our Future Health to convey our story to the public.   To succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

Proven experience as a writer, with a demonstrable portfolio of published articles.  
Specialises in features – especially case studies and interviews – but equally able to turn hand to news, newsletters, or whatever copy needs writing on the day.  
Experience of reaching out to, and interviewing, healthcare experts and/or VIPs is desirable.  
Ability to follow strict deadlines and fact-check information in a watertight manner.  
Good observation skills.  
Thorough understanding of journalistic/publishing law.  
Broad knowledge of headline best practice.  
Degree in journalism, communications or relevant field.

£40,000 - £45,000 per annum basic salary.
