Executive Editor

Shaw Media strives to be the most trusted local news source in Northern Illinois. We are looking for a competitive, strategic, and hands-on editor to lead our news efforts. As a member of our executive leadership team, the editor will also participate in high-level strategic initiatives.

In recent years Shaw Media has acquired numerous daily and weekly newspapers and we have launched new digital sites and magazines. In 2023 we ventured into broadcast by acquiring six radio stations in the Illinois Valley. We continue to seek new growth opportunities. While others contract, we expand.

About this Opportunity:

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding and track record of success in digital subscriber acquisition. Other desired attributes would include the ability to integrate multiple platforms (including radio) for storytelling and a solid vision for transitioning from print to digital news delivery.

Shaw Media has offices in Crystal Lake, DeKalb, Joliet, La Salle, Peru, and Dixon. The executive editor will select an office as their base and will be expected to visit other offices as needed.

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in a journalism environment and at least five years in a news management role. Experience in a competitive environment and overseeing multiple publications is a definite plus.
