You will:
Executive Produce on behalf of Sky, a slate of feature docs and limited series at varying stages of development and production, working with Indies and potentially some in-house production.
Work with the small Factual commissioning team, to source, develop and deliver strong, distinctive, and original ideas that drive on-demand viewing for Sky’s factual services – Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime and Sky Nature.
Work with our in-house teams to ensure programmes are compliant and delivered on budget and on schedule.
Work with in house marketing and PR to ensure assets work to the project’s utmost potential for Sky’s audience.
Stay on top of audience trends and spot opportunities to make premium content that is worth paying for.
You’ll have:
A passion for documentaries and a developed understanding of what components are needed create to a successful documentary.
Considerable experience of producing, delivering and/or commissioning premium factual content, juggling multiple projects at Executive Producer level, with a thorough knowledge of production processes and budgets.
For this fixed term role, a significant understanding of the commissioning process will be an advantage.
A network of industry contacts – primarily in the UK, but international a bonus.
An understanding of what our customers are looking for, and from our factual brands – Sky Documentaries, Sky Nature and Sky Crime.
Key Responsibilities:
Work across a slate of ideas for Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime and Sky Nature.
To develop and commission high quality documentary and factual programming with independent producers, as well as with Sky Studios, to fit in with the future strategic aims of Sky Content.
See projects through from development to commission, Executive Produce the content for Sky to a high level, keeping Sky’s customer in mind throughout.
Collaborate closely with Sky stakeholders, including production, finance, legal and compliance, strategy/scheduling, marketing, PR and social, on ensuring a streamlined process and cohesive result.
Inspire Indies and the country’s best filmmakers to bring their most creative ideas to Sky, and deal with them in a way which communicates Sky’s values and beliefs. Maintain excellent on-going relationships with them.
Keep up to date with what the other broadcasters are doing in the factual genre and ensure that Sky is seen as breaking the mould of the genre.
Apply up to date knowledge of Ofcom rules and internal processes dealing with controversial programmes.
Liaise with production companies on programme ideas and tactfully reject ideas that are unsuitable for the portfolio.
Ensure projects are made by a diverse range of filmmakers, supporting and championing emerging talent, as well as bringing in established, award-winning names to Sky.
Keep clear records of incoming pitches and those that have been rejected, developed or commissioned.
