The Southeast Missourian seeks a talented sports editor interested in helping create content and craft the newspaper’s daily sports section, working in a collaborative team environment where innovation is encouraged and celebrated. This candidate will be working for a family-owned media company in Cape Girardeau’s vibrant downtown that combines big-city attractions, a state university, and small-town charm. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer with strong reporting, editing and management capabilities. The successful candidate must be able to craft stories, primarily on the region’s high school sports programs, on the fly for a 24-hour online news cycle plus our print product and will be responsible for basic photography while working with staff photographer on more nuanced art. The Southeast Missourian has grown digital subscriptions by 400% since March 2018. In addition to its native digital platform, the publication produces an e-edition six days per week and a print product three days per week. Semoball.com is the newspaper’s sports website that aggregates sports content from five Rust Communications newspapers in Southeast Missouri. Semoball.com covers 56 high schools as well as college sports, including a Division I university. The company hosts an annual awards show (Semoball Awards) where the top athletes and coaches from area high schools are recognized for athletic and academic accomplishments.
