Sports Editor / Staff Writer

The Courier-Times, the award-winning weekly newspaper located in Roxboro/Person County, NC, is hiring next member of its newsroom. We are going for the right person, whether that be a reporter who specializes in news, a sports editor or someone who can do a little of both. The reporter position will be a little bit of everything --- from covering breaking news, government meetings, crime and courts and even features. Strong writing, reporting and photography skills would are required. The ideal sports editor candidate will have an expert knowledge of sports, strong writing, photography and social media skills and will have the ability to craft outstanding game stories, notebooks, columns and briefs. The next sports editor will be an independent worker who will thrive as a one-person sports department and will love the freedom that it provides. The sports beat of Person County includes two high schools (Person HS, Roxboro Community School), three middle schools, and recreation sports. The new sports editor will also be responsible for keeping tabs and updating the community on local athletes competing on the college level. Recent college graduates with strong clips and experience will be considered as will other journalists at different levels of their career. The Courier-Times is a family-owned publication with one other sister paper, located in Dunn, N.C.
