States Newsroom, is an innovative network of state-based news outlets focused on connecting people to the state policies that shape their daily lives. From our 37 newsrooms (and counting), we report on state government, politics and policy in every region of the nation. Our coverage, which is free for readers and for republishers, earns millions of pageviews and thousands of reprints monthly.

As we continue to grow, the Membership and Marketing Manager will help our teams maintain and improve the vital, informative newsletters and social media updates they share with our communities partners as a public service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Membership and Marketing Manager will be responsible for the following:

Building and growing a membership program that consistently strives for improved acquisition, conversion and retention rates
Developing and executing membership campaigns, including: renewals, year-end giving and other special appeals
Participate in developing membership goals, identifying growth opportunities, and developing strategies to meet targets
Strategizing membership actions based on data in EveryAction (CRM), including segmenting lists, running reports on performance, updating records and performing some back end processes
Analyzing data to better understand and be responsive to audience members and supporters
Manage multi-channel marketing campaigns and tailor digital presence to membership program
Advise colleagues on social media best practices and standards
Guide and implement the organization’s comprehensive and integrated marketing plan to achieve audience objectives
Supporting development by responsively assisting in special projects


QUALIFICATIONS

Five or more years newsroom, audience or membership management experience — ideally in managing multi-channel campaigns (acquisition, retention, upgrades) as revenue streams
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead others with diplomacy and tact
You’re curious to learn and energized by teaching and coaching others.
Tech-savvy and data-driven
You want people to be invested in state politics, especially in how decisions and policies can affect historically marginalized communities, and you want to help journalists share those stories
Demonstrated experience writing compelling communications for a wide range of audiences and platforms
Digital content experience is highly desired

This job requires authorization to work in the U.S. All States Newsroom employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID within 30 days of hire.

This position can be based in our offices in Chapel Hill, NC or Washington, DC, if you prefer in-person; or wherever you work best if you’re comfortable working remotely.

COMPENSATION

The minimum salary for this position is $70,000 and rises with experience. Our generous benefits package includes:

This position requires work on a Monday-Friday schedule with occasional time outside those hours to support breaking news coverage. There will be opportunities to travel to work with colleagues across the network, as well as for professional development
