Position Overview:
In this role, you will contribute to the Joint Intermediate Force Capabilities Office (JIFCO) by serving as a dedicated staff writer responsible for crafting technical articles and supporting media engagement. Your work will promote the relevance of Intermediate Force Capabilities to the Joint Force, allies, and partners through publications in both internal Department of Defense/North Atlantic Treaty Organization (DOD/NATO) and commercial media outlets.

Position Responsibilities:
Research, write, and submit articles regarding the relevance of Intermediate Force Capabilities to the Joint Force, allies, and partners for the JIFCO’s submittal to and publication in internal (DOD/NATO) and commercial media outlets.
Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate writing products with the JIFCO’s Strategic Communications/Public Affairs staff.
Interface with military and civilian personnel at senior levels from a remote location during regular Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours.
Preparing material written in another person’s “voice” (colloquially called “ghost-writing”) to be submitted for publication under their name and byline.
Provide writing and editing support and/or expertise to the JIFCO for special projects and assignments, such as preparing annual reviews, articles, other documents, papers, or technical publications on a wide variety of issues with audiences at the highest level of the DoD’s civilian and military leadership or other governmental leaders.
Coordination with editors and editorial staff to coordinate submission of articles for publication.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications preferred.
Active Secret-level clearance.
Must pass a background check and be eligible to obtain a final Secret clearance.
Military experience preferred.
Experienced ghost-writer preferred.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
At least five years of demonstrable experience in a Department of Defense public affairs research and writing environment, OR at least five years of demonstrated experience as a staff writer directly employed by, or regularly freelancing for, an internationally recognized physical or online publication.
Record of publication on military-themed issues, including thoroughly researched articles, blog posts, and feature-length works.
Experience conducting semi-structured qualitative research interviews.
Experience coordinating with written and online editorial staff, including pitching material for publication.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must provide writing samples.
Must be experienced with the professional remote work culture.
Proficient in MS Office suite.
