TAPinto Newark, an independently owned, award-winning news website that is part of the TAPinto network, has an immediate opening for full-time news reporter. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience covering municipal government, including city/town council meetings, planning/zoning board meetings and school board meetings. However, we are not looking for a stenographer. You should be able to show examples in your clip submission of how you developed enterprise stories from your beat. You will also be expected to cover issues of education, poverty, housing, economic development, gentrification, equity and injustice. Newark is New Jersey's largest city and one of its poorest, though it has been on the rise. A reporter with a keen eye can find an endless supply of news stories. This is not a remote job. You will be expected to spend your days in the city on the prowl for stories that help readers better understand Newark. Reporters from TAPinto Newark and our sister publication, TAPinto Camden, have graduated to larger news organizations, including The Star-Ledger, NJBIZ, and the Burlington County Times. Salary is commensurate with experience. Health benefits package included. If you think you have what it takes, please submit your resume, cover letter explaining why you want the position, along with your five best clips to newark@tapinto.net.
