Sports Copy Editor / Social Media Specialist

The award-winning Albuquerque Journal seeks an energetic addition to our sports desk to serve as copy editor and social media specialist. Your work will include copy editing stories on deadlines, updating the website, and taking a lead on promoting and publishing our sports content through the various social media. It requires excellent interpersonal skills related to both department and newsroom staff and with the public via phone and email. If you enjoy your sports, this is a fun place to be -- major college athletics, the Triple-A Isotopes baseball team, New Mexico United of the United Soccer League Championship pro division, big-deal preps and one of the top bases for mixed martial arts talent in the world. Albuquerque also is a great city for those who love and appreciate the outdoors, an affordable cost of living, a world-class food culture and more really good brewpubs than you count. And then there’s the spectacle of the International Balloon Fiesta every October. ... Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related degree with equivalent experience. Work will be nights and weekends. Writing/reporting opportunities may arise down the road, but the desk/editing duties will be the priority. Salary will be based on experience.
