The Appeal is looking for writers to contribute content for their weekly newsletter that features reported commentary on the criminal legal system. The Appeal is a worker-led nonprofit newsroom dedicated to exposing how the U.S. criminal legal system fails to keep people safe and, instead, perpetuates harm. Two writers are needed to each contribute one newsletter per month. The organization is looking for news-responsive or evergreen pieces on topics related to criminal justice, such as policing, prisons, prosecutors, judges, juvenile incarceration, and more. They also publish criticism of the media’s portrayal of the criminal legal system. Pieces can be either national or local in scope. For more information, visit their website.
