The Ark, located in Tiburon, Calif., is seeking a full-time beat reporter.
The Belvedere, Strawberry and public-safety beat reporter should be a sharp and enthusiastic self-starter for reporting and writing news and feature stories on a wide range of topics from government, policing and housing to personal profiles. You'll be expected to develop sources, generate story ideas and break news while thinking critically and challenging sources for high-impact accountability jornalism, even for seemingly routine meeting coverage.
The position is full-time hybrid, working in the office, on location and from home, and requires evening work several times a month to cover board meetings, as well as rare weekend work. The salary is $50,000 per year — $24.04/hour, overtime eligible — and benefits include 100% coverage of medical-, vision- and dental-insurance premiums; a Simple IRA retirement plan with up to 3% company match; two weeks paid vacation by accrual; ~10 additional days paid time off for our winter holiday office closure; seven additional paid holidays; and paid sick leave.
Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, and/or have background as a news reporter for a college or professional news publication.
You must reside within 30 minutes of our office or be willing to relocate within four to five weeks of an offer. Send a resume, cover letter (optional) and clips to jobs@thearknewspaper.com. We are an extremely small operation that's now short-staffed so, if we are interested, we'll contact you as soon as possible. Please do not call.
