New Posted 10 October 2023 | Aspen, Colorado | The Aspen Times

The Aspen Times wants you to be their next editor and newsroom leader.

At The Aspen Times, we cover the incredible mountain communities in Pitkin County as well as the greater Roaring Fork Valley and have been doing so since 1881. You and your team will put out a daily paper, a weekly section and several seasonal magazines throughout the year. To make things even more interesting, Aspen is a media-rich town, complete with a public radio station, a non-profit journalism organization and, not one, but two daily newspapers.

We work as a team to produce award-winning, impactful journalism, and we seek to hold authority accountable and inform our communities of Aspen, Snowmass and Basalt. On any given day, you’ll be writing and editing stories on topics as diverse as sustainability, local athletes, philanthropic endeavors, education, the police beat, real estate, and entertainment.

The editor will know how to drive online audience growth, and meet the demands of a 24-7 news cycle, while maintaining a first-class print edition. We’re looking for someone who is experienced in addressing the challenges associated with putting out a daily newspaper, managing a newsroom, and being a part of the community.

Responsibilities:

Manage a staff of full-time journalists and coordinate with freelancers.
Guide news coverage, helping reporters hone their beats and pursue journalism that will make a difference in the community.
Edit articles for content, grammar, clarity, tone, and accuracy.
Oversee production of print edition including story placement, choosing local and regional content, and setting up the copy desk to make deadlines each night.
Oversee website with aim of maximizing online audience.
Have knowledge of digital analytics to help drive decision-making for stories and know how to work with reporters on future story development.
Serve as the public face of the paper in interactions with residents, from readers to elected officials.

Must relocate to the Roaring Fork Valley.

Salary: $110 - $120K, 5 years+ of experience required. Benefits include up to a $500 annual recreation reimbursement, vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, 401K match and more.
