The Associated Press is looking for a dynamic Live Blog Editor to join our expanding team of diverse journalists committed to engaging digital audiences. This role can also be located in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities: As a Live Blog News Editor, you'll play a pivotal role in creating real-time news content for online platforms and guiding news consumers to APNews.com. You will prioritize the creation of live blog content that resonates with online audiences, ensuring it is informative, visually appealing, and engaging. You also will assist with coordination around live video streams and clips from major events, breaking news, awards shows, political speeches and daily news updates.
We’re looking for someone who will:
promote and implement best practices in live blogging among the AP's global news gathering and production teams.
enhance the visibility and distinctiveness of AP's output by curating an exceptional user experience.
demonstrate flexibility in working night shifts and weekends to meet coverage demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience in live blog editing, with proficiency in using video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Canva.
A strong news sense and the ability to identify and promote all-formats coverage that resonates with audiences online.
Familiarity with best practices on content creation, search engine optimization, and social media strategy.
Strong teamwork and people skills, including the ability to collaborate with diverse teams of journalists and designers across different formats, such as text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive, and graphics.
A commitment to innovation and inclusivity while upholding AP's standards for integrity and objectivity.
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with at least three years of full-time work as an editor, reporter, video producer, or social media producer at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or AP bureau.
Eligibility to work in the U.S. or the ability to obtain permission to do so.
Advanced-level professional proficiency in both written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits: The anticipated salary range for this position is $98,000 - $108,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
