The Associated Press is seeking a multi-talented, highly organized and enthusiastic journalist to help with our work to promote our Race & Ethnicity journalism and inclusion efforts. In this role, you will have two main roles. The first is to track and advance the reach and impact of the journalism produced by the AP’s own Race & Ethnicity team and inclusive content produced by AP’s global staff. The second is to help with our efforts to promote the sharing and widespread use of other newsrooms’ content through an AP-run platform called StoryShare. This is a staff position covered by AP’s agreement with the News Media Guild.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the AP’s Vice President of News, Standards and Inclusion, you will work closely with the AP’s Race & Ethnicity editor to gather metrics, analyze the impact of stories written by the Race & Ethnicity team and track impact of AP’s global inclusion content, as well as strategize about what more we can do to promote our inclusive work.
You also will work to maintain and expand our existing platform where community newsrooms share content. The job will support our Black Press and Indigenous sharing networks and include reaching out to existing users of the platform to help build community and engagement and to see what is working and what we can improve. It will also include actively working to seek out additional publications that want to participate. You will also help launch our story sharing platforms for Hispanic and LGBTQ+ publications.
Required Qualifications:
At least two years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk; or in a PR role.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
We also looking for someone who is:
Detail-oriented and organized
Familiar with tools for audience tracking
A self-starter, able to anticipate needs before they arise
Enthusiastic about the work of the Race & Ethnicity team and eager to help promote it
Dedicated to pursuing innovative and inclusive coverage that maintains AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Flexible thinking, organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities each day.
How to apply: Please apply with a single document that includes your resume and a cover letter describing how you would go about the role – both tracking the reach of AP’s Race & Ethnicity and inclusion journalism and encouraging story sharing and community for newsrooms that use our StoryShare platform.
We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use your cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.
