The Associated Press is looking for a talented bilingual journalist and translator to work on the AP’s translation desk in Mexico City.
Responsibilities: In this role, you will translate news stories from English to Spanish with speed, accuracy and precision, avoiding literal translations to produce stories that are clear and understandable to the widest audiences. You should have a broad knowledge of general news and be able to exercise good editorial judgment.
Preferred Qualifications: You must have journalistic experience and a willingness to work varying shifts. You must be bilingual in English and Spanish and able to work effectively as a member of a team. Applicants should have at least three years of experience as a translator.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least one year of full-time work in a newsroom.
Advanced level professional competency in written and spoken Spanish language is required.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.
Authorization to work in Mexico will be mandatory.
