We are seeking an experienced communications professional to join The Atlantic’s communications team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Communications, the publicist will be part of a team dedicated to developing strategies and promoting the company, its staff, journalism, products, and events across all divisions.
The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years media relations, communications, or journalism experience with an appreciation for news and publishing. The candidate will be excited by the pace of a newsroom. The publicist will diligently maintain important internal and external relationships, devote strong attention to detail, thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment, and be able to work under deadline.
The publicist’s responsibilities include:
Publicity of The Atlantic's journalism published online, in the magazine, in audio, and events, most notably the annual Atlantic Festival;
Supporting promotion of pivotal company initiatives and launches;
Pitching and coordinating logistics for broadcast interviews with The Atlantic’s journalists;
Drafting pitches, press announcements, and internal comms, and prepping materials for distribution;
Building and maintaining press lists and compiling press coverage;
Seeking and securing brand building opportunities for The Atlantic’s leadership and journalists.

A self-starter who takes initiative and can manage projects independently
Strong internal communication skills
Excellent writing and research skills
Strong attention to detail and an ability to multitask
An ability to plan comprehensively, work both independently and collaboratively, and manage and prioritize projects to satisfy competing deadlines
Eagerness to learn, support, and collaborate with a fast-moving team
Familiarity with media databases (i.e. Muck Rack); Newsdesk; Google Suite.
The position is based in Washington, DC or New York and reports to the Senior Vice President of Communications for The Atlantic.
Salary Minimum: $55,000; Salary Maximum: $70,000
