The Baltimore Sun seeks an editor to lead our coverage of politics and government. As the leader of this team, this editor will direct our work to hold elected officials, candidates and bureaucrats accountable through investigations and the use of public records. This coverage is vital to our public service mission as a news organization and key to furthering The Baltimore Sun as the preeminent news source statewide. This person will be responsible for assigning, editing and producing content that serves our audience on multiple platforms (mobile site, desktop, apps, social, newsletters, print, etc.). This editor ensures quick responses to breaking news while directing a talented team to produce thoughtful enterprise, analysis and investigative projects that readers can’t find anywhere else. Beyond supervising a core group of beat reporters, the editor would work with visual journalists and multimedia journalists to develop additional and innovative ways to tell stories. This role requires guiding stories from conception to final edit, as well as writing compelling headlines, maximizing SEO and keeping digital channels updated.
