The Boston Globe is seeking a newsroom developer, a critical position tasked with creating superior visual experiences for our top projects and most important areas of coverage. The ideal candidate has a developer’s skill with graphics and code, and an editor’s eye for stories and subject matter. We need someone who can take an innovative approach to our news coverage and who can push the limits of our multimedia storytelling abilities.
Specifically, the newsroom developer will take the development lead on various digital projects and initiatives, creating multimedia experiences that include, but aren’t limited to, data visualizations, interactive graphics, and creative use of maps, video and audio. The developer will be an independent worker, able to bring a project from conceptualization to deployment, but also a team player who thrives in a group setting with many fast-moving parts. They will also be able to juggle multiple initiatives simultaneously, pivoting from a project to breaking news when necessary.
Finally, the candidate should be an energetic newsroom presence with a dedication to the type of watchdog journalism and enterprising local news that reaches the Globe’s millions of readers.

Two to four years of experience as a newsroom developer
Comfortable with change and working within a dynamic team environment
Strong knowledge of modern HTML, CSS (Sass/Stylus), and JavaScript standards and best practices. You care about writing performant, accessible code.
