Print matters at The Buffalo News, and we are looking for an experienced and versatile editor to join our print desk. Our ideal candidate has sterling news judgment, a passion for language and a commitment to accuracy. Editors on our print desk are the guardians of our style and standards, and successful candidates must be comfortable quickly assessing a story’s importance and making decisions in breaking-news situations. We’re looking for someone who is just as adept at crafting a catchy headline on a Page One enterprise story as choosing national and international stories that give readers something beyond the news of the day. This editor will be able to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressure, then take charge when everything must change. Experience on a news desk is a must, and experience in the slot is a plus. Mastery of the English language – including spelling and AP style – is a given. Meticulous attention to detail, an understanding of workflow and prioritization are necessary skills. Knowledge of Adobe InCopy and InDesign and basic pagination skills are a plus, but not necessary. The job will include evening and weekend work and includes responsibility over the newspaper several nights a week.
