The Canberra Times seeks a talented journalist to join our team in a digital and print audience engagement role.
The journalist (producer) role works hand-in-hand with our reporting team to serve the audience of Canberra's No. 1 news site and newspaper and sits at the heart of day-to-day decision making in our newsroom.
The mission of The Canberra Times is to serve the national city. Our quality journalism has served the capital for nearly a century. Our print edition is published seven days a week and our growing audience of discerning digital subscribers expects The Canberra Times to keep them constantly informed, entertained and connected with breaking news, insightful analysis and thoughtful commentary.
That's why we're looking for a journalist (producer) to work closely with our senior editors and reporters to ensure our readers are delivered the best stories on all platforms every day and help us continue to grow our digital subscriber audience.
As a producer they will use their skills to optimise and publish copy for print and online, to manage our homepage and to promote our work using our social media and newsletter channels.
The position would best suit an experienced multi-platform journalist who wants to apply their news nous and skills in a new way or a sharp, enthusiastic early career journalist keen to build their skills for the future.
The successful applicant will:
* have experience as a reporter, producer and/or editor;
* demonstrate strong news sense and a passion for multi-platform journalism;.
* demonstrate experience in writing and editing copy to a high standard of spelling, grammar and style;
* have a track record for showing initiative in generating ideas, working to direction and collaborating on tasks including writing/producing for digital platforms and tight deadlines.
A willingness to work shifts on weekends and early mornings or evenings is essential.
